01 / THE PROBLEM

The existing booking form created an overwhelming and confusing user experience, with 15+ fields, poor visual hierarchy, and limited organisation. Essential booking information was buried among optional fields, while guest details, contact information, and payment inputs were mixed together without clear grouping. This increased cognitive load, forced users to manually enter unnecessary information, and made it difficult to identify the next step in the booking process. As a result, users faced unnecessary friction, increasing the risk of form abandonment, input errors, and incomplete bookings.

02 / DESIGN PROCESS

My design process began with analysing booking funnel data and user behaviour through Microsoft Clarity, using session recordings, heatmaps, and click tracking to identify usability issues and points of friction. I translated these insights into prioritised design opportunities, focusing on simplifying the form, improving information hierarchy, streamlining date selection, and enhancing mobile usability.

Booking a stay should feel exciting, not uncertain. This concept explores how clearer information, a simpler form and a visible booking summary can help guests understand what they’re reserving and what happens next.

01 Clarify the stay

Bring dates, accommodation details and the price into one easy-to-scan summary, so guests don’t have to piece the booking together.

02 Simplify the form

Group related fields, use familiar labels and ask only for essential details. Keep the sequence predictable from start to finish.

03 Guide the next step

Use a clear primary action and supporting guidance to explain what happens after submission, especially on smaller screens.

04 / SOLUTION & RESULTS

I redesigned the booking experience into a streamlined, step-by-step journey with fewer essential form fields, clearer information grouping, and a stronger visual hierarchy. Key improvements included an interactive calendar with real-time availability feedback, simplified guest selection, persistent promotional-code messaging, and a more intuitive mobile layout. I also introduced progressive disclosure and bedding configuration options, helping users make informed decisions without unnecessary navigation or confusion.

Following the redesign, booking conversion increased from 34.34% in March to 60.38% in June 2025 - a 75.83% relative increase. Median time to convert stabilised at 2.4 minutes from April onwards, while rage clicks and dead clicks showed a downward trend, indicating reduced interaction friction. A recorded user successfully completed a booking in under two minutes without hesitation or errors, demonstrating a more intuitive and efficient booking experience.
